the best part is that the replies are a wave of sadness and depression whenever the cat leaves and then rejoicing when it comes back like the cat is some kind of messiah

I love that thing in Lord of the Rings where the villains spend so much time obsessing over the character they believe is their Destined Archenemy that they overlook the character who actually defeats them
The Witch-King of Angmar, the Black Rider, seems to be Destined to fight the wizard Gandalf, the White Rider. He doesn’t consider Eowyn a threat right up until she stabs him in the face
Saruman is fixated on defeating Theoden, Aragorn and Gandalf in an Epic Light vs Dark Fantasy Battle at Helm’s Deep. So he completely overlooks the two hobbits and bunch of trees sitting right next door, who proceed to destroy Isengard
Sauron is fixated on defeating Aragorn, the Destined King of the Heroes and descendant of the man who defeated him last time. So he completely overlooks Frodo and Sam, who proceed to actually defeat him

I’m sorry but I strongly refuse to accept “married man finds the love of his life in another woman and leaves his wife and children behind (to get married to the new one)” as romantic - not even a little bit.

Same goes for all those stories where the wife leaves her family either for another man (or woman) who’s her actual “one true love”, or because her husband’s somehow holding her back, so she must leave him and their children to “find her true self”. It’s not romantic or empowering, it’s just selfish.

This is slightly more obscure but can I throw in when there’s like a knight or a monk even or someone who die to religious vows or beliefs is celibate/cannot engage with the romance. And the film/book thinks tempting them away from that to be with their beloved as romantic? Because it’s not it’s gross

“Social justice” = “giving people things they didn’t earn”.
Thomas Sowell has repeatedly pointed out how affirmative action policies actually hurt minorities, by thrusting them into positions that they may not be prepared or qualified for.
I’ve seen this in action. So, at Ferris State University about a decade ago or so(probably still today as well), the college admissions people would seek poor urban black youth(often from Detroit) and give them conditional full ride scholarships and then like clockwork they would screw up, lose it and leave or lose it and then go into debt. So, it was a lose lose for the kid who got the full ride and the students who they ignored due to skin color and geographic location.
